PPTEL Seeks UPTIME INSTITUTE's Highest Accreditation For Sarawak Data Centre

30th June 2020: In line with the aspirations of the Sarawak Government’s lead by our Sarawak Chief Minister’s that is to Digitalize Sarawak economy with Transformation Program. Today, Sarawak has embarked on another initiative to place Sarawak in global map by next year. PP Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (PPTEL) a fully Sarawakian owned company is seeking Uptime Institute’s highest Tiered accreditation – Tier-IV (Tier 4) for the Design and Operations of PPTEL’s Edge Data Center that will be available and ready by Q1, 2021. This globally recognized accreditation is the first in Malaysia and Borneo. The award signing ceremony was held on 30th June 2020 in Kuala Lumpur.

“Having a globally recognized Tier-IV certification requires certified skilled personnel to manage and operate the Data Centre. This will create skilled job opportunities for Sarawakians to be certified and work with a globally recognized organization like PPTEL in Sarawak” highlights by the Chairman of PPTEL, Abang Abdillah Izzarim . “PPTEL is committed towards the Sarawak Government’s Digital Transformation Program and the key factor for the successful implementation of our projects is international connectivity to the regional telecommunications hub of Singapore, via our own Batam Sarawak Internet Cable System (BaSICS), scheduled to be commercially ready by December 2020 and the Sarawak-wide fiber optic network connecting to the borders of Kalimantan, Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam simultaneously bridging the digital divide in key areas within Sarawak ” adds Abang Abdillah Izzarim.

Organizations that operates the critical processes cannot afford have any downtime on their servers, require the use the highest Tiered Data Centre, to ensure uninterrupted supply of power for cooling systems and to its servers. Taking advantage of the renewable energy sources from the State-owned hydro-electric dams, PPTEL’s Edge Data Centre is capable to supply sufficient power to energy-hungry cloud servers. PPTEL is also targeting the highest level – GOLD status for the Data Centre Operations, to be certified “GOLD” by Uptime Institute when it’s commercially ready.
